Beer Color

The color of a beer is indicative of the level the grains are roasted before brewing.



The darker the color, the darker the roast.

Typically, the darker the color, the more flavor is transmitted from the grain. (Just like Coffee)

Color Characteristics

  • Golden Beers have a bready or crackery taste
  • Amber Beers have a nutty taste
  • Brown Beers have a roasted taste
  • Black Beers usually have a burnt taste

Thought, as you travel through the landscape of dark beers, you'll find some dark beers having a chocolate or coffee-like taste.
